Obituaries Tuesday May 12th

William John Witte, Burlington resident died Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.  He was born July 28, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa the son of William Andrew and Hazel Weinrich Witte.  Bill married Rosemary Elaine Senn June 12, 1965 in Burlington, Iowa.

He worked in Accounting at Witte Drug in Burlington and later established and ran Bill’s Country Store on Jefferson which became Natures Corner.

Bill was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church, New Crystal Lake Club, Carthage Lake Club, BPOE #84, Eagles Club, Burlington Golf Club and Ducks Unlimited.  He enjoyed golfing, duck hunting, yard work and taking walks. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and traveling.  Bill especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and watching their sports events.  He shared many stories about the Witte family history.  Bill was an advocate of Aldo Leopold environmental ethics.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Burlington, two daughters, Regina Kunz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Angela Witte of New York City, New York; one son, John (Tamara) Witte of Geneva, Illinois; two sisters, Mary Ann Baker of Burlington, Iowa and Nancy Jacobs of Winnetka, Illinois; two grandchildren, Sydney Kunz and Blake Kunz; several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Paul Catholic Church on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A Rosary will be recited in Prugh’s Chapel Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends until 8:30 p.m.

Memorials have been established for SS John & Paul Catholic Church and Notre Dame Foundation.
