Body of Missing Boater Found

The body of a boater who was missing since his small boat went under the roller dam at Lock and Dam 18 on the Mississippi River north of Burlington on Sunday has been found.

The body of Christopher Corson, age 33, was found shortly before 11:30am Monday.

Corson and Anthony Zurmuehlen, age 30, both of Burlington, were fishing near Lock and Dam 18 when their boat was pulled under the dam, causing it to roll over. Zurmuehlen managed to stay alive by grabbing onto a log below the roller dam and working his way to the surface and, eventually, to shore, where he was found by a Department of Natural Resources Officer around 3:00pm. After being taken to Great River Medical Center, he was discharged without injury.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket.

The search for Courson was suspended Sunday evening as daylight waned. It picked back up at sunrise, and Courson was discovered a few hours later.
