Two Shootings in Less Than 24 Hours: Shots Fired on Smith Street, None Injured

Police are investigating a possible connection between a shooting that occurred Monday evening and a second that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Burlington.

Burlington Police say that around 3:43 pm on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 1500 Block of Smith Street in response to a report of a shooting. Upon officers’ arrival, they located several shell casings and found that a bullet had struck the residence at 1510 Smith Street. Officers searched the residence and did not find injuries to anyone inside. Witness accounts indicate that a small SUV traveled westbound past the residence and fired several rounds from inside of the vehicle, toward an individual on the sidewalk and then fled the area.

Police say that Tuesday afternoon’s incident might be related to a Monday evening shooting that occurred in the 1300 Block of Valley Street, in which 25 year old Reggie Dawane Flex of Chicago was shot in the neck.

Flex remains in intensive care at the University of Iowa Medical Center.
