Rural Nauvoo Shooting: More Details Released, Believed to be an Accident

Police have released more details on a Thursday shooting in Nauvoo, Illinois that police are calling an accident.

67 year old Nanci Culp was shot once while inside of her residence at 1038 East County Road 2100. Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger says that four shots struck Culp’s home, fired from a rifle roughly 600 feet away from the home, and penetrated through the walls of the structure, with one of those bullets striking Culp.

A juvenile suspect has been arrested, pending criminal charges. Police say the juvenile was shooting the rifle and do not believe they intended to harm Culp or even strike the home. At this point, no charges are being filed against the child’s parents.

Culp was found dead by another resident of the home at around 11:15 am.

The incident is still under investigation.
