Obituaries Thursday June 4th

Delores E. “Dee” McCabe, 86, of Burlington, died at 5:25 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.

 

Born March 21, 1929, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Oscar D. and Hazel Kite High. On August 2, 1952, she married John Emmitt McCabe in Quincy, IL. He died June 15, 1998.

 

She worked at the Burlington Hawk Eye in the circulation department.

 

She was a graduate of Keokuk High School.

 

She was an avid bowler and played on a bowling league. She enjoyed golfing, shopping, collecting antiques, and reading the newspaper.

 

Survivors include one son, Daniel John (Sara) McCabe of Marion, IA; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Dan) Kaiser of Cedar Rapids, IA; three great-grandchildren, Maria, Ella, and Evelyn Kaiser; one brother, Robert High of Keokuk; one sister, Marjorie Korkoske of Collierville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Kathleen Susan McCabe, two brothers, and one sister.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. McCabe will be 10:30 AM Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Keokuk, Iowa at a later date.

 

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Madeline Coleen Dowell, age 100, of Stronghurst, Illinois passed away at 12:07 a.m. Wednesday June 3, 2015 at Oakwood Estates Assisted Living Center in Stronghurst. She was born March 8, 1915 near Stronghurst, the daughter of Perry A. and Nellie Mourning Stamp. A lifelong resident of the Stronghurst area, she graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1932. On April 11, 1936, she married Gean W. Dowell in Hamilton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1985.

 

Madeline enjoyed many years of traveling, bowling, playing cards and dancing with Gean. They raised four boys at the family farm. For the past several years, she had been an active resident at Oakwood Estates.

 

Survivors include two sons, Sharon (Lynnea) Dowell of Havana, IL, Loren (Reva) Dowell of Round Rock, TX, seven grandchildren, Lori (Bill) Grassberger, Shannon Dowell, Tamatha Norman, Jennifer (Roger) Leuckie, Tanner-Gean (Jason) Brooks, Jenna Dowell, Kortni (David) Canty, ten great grandchildren, Jestin, Joey, Willie, Victoria, Anthony, Julia, Natalie, Molly, Korbin, and Payton, one great great grandchild, Kiaya, one brother, Ronnie (Joan) Stamp of Stronghurst, one sister, Vivian Rankin of Athens, IL, many nieces and nephews, and a very special cousin, Mary Alice Huntoon, of Stronghurst. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Lonnie and Kenneth, one granddaughter, Julia, two brothers and two sisters.

 

Visitation will be 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral service for Mrs. Dowell will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday June 8, 2015 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church with Rev. Karna Peterson and Juanita Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst United Methodist Church and Oakwood Estates in Stronghurst.
