It was an intense weekend for racing. We had a particularly fast driver win the Nascar Race at the Pocono Raceway. We had a particularly fast horse win the triple crown at Belmont, and we had a particularly fast dog win the 12th annual wiener dog race at Cyn-a-palooza in Downtown Burlington.

Missy is a 3 year old dachshund owned by Jenny and Bob Mitchell of Wapello, and she’s a back-to-back wiener dog racing champion filled to the brim with natural talent.

“The funny thing about it is that there’s no training! I don’t even work with her!” Jenny told KBUR, “She just loves to run!”

Missy came out on top of a field of 42 racing dogs from all across the tri-state area.

Cynthia Skylar is the owner of “Original Cyn” in downtown Burlington, which has put on the race since it’s inception.

“We used to live in Los Angeles and we would go down to Huntington Beach and they would have these awesome weiner dog races, and my husband and I thought it was hilarious,” Skylar said, “So when I moved here, I opened this store and I had always wanted to have wiener dog races and I figured the best thing to do was to raise some money for charity and have the community come out and support it.”

Proceeds from the event went to the area Humane Society.
