Obits for June 15, 2015

Mr. Roger L. Crum, 75, of rural LaHarpe, IL passed away at 11:55 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home.
He was born on May 23, 1940 in LaHarpe the son of John M. and Harriet L Williams Crum. On April 11, 1965 Roger married Marjorie June Davis in Burlington, IA.
Mr. Crum was a 1958 LaHarpe High School graduate. He then attended Western Illinois University for two years before enlisting in the Illinois National Guard. Roger farmed near LaHarpe all of his life. He was a member of the Hancock County Beef Association where he had served as Treasurer and Vice President. He was selected as the 2006 Hancock County Cattleman of the Year. He was also a member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau, LaMoine Valley Angus Association, and the Carthage Gun Club. He had served as leader of the 4H Club, and had also served on the LaHarpe School District board. Earlier in life he belonged to the former Disco United Methodist Church, and was currently a member of the LaHarpe Union Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, one son, Rodney Crum of LaHarpe, one daughter, Michele (Brad) Hester of Salem, IL and four grandchildren, Bailey and Brant Hester and Allison and Madison Crum.
 He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at the LaHarpe Union Church with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will be held in LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church and the Hancock County Beef Association’s Scholarship Fund. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.

Marjorie Lou ‘Margie’ Haislet, age 74, of Wapello, died Thursday morning, June 11, 2015, at Trinity Hospital in Muscatine.  The daughter of Lester and Margaret Wetendorf Grady, she was born on May 23, 1941 in Iowa City.

She had married Lewis Albert Haislet.  She later had a longtime companion, James White.

Margie is survived by a son, Michael Grady of Mt. Pleasant.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Jim White; and a brother, LaVerne Grady.

following her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no services.

Travis J. Heckenberg, 38, of Lomax, Il passed away Wednesday June 10, 2015 near Terre Haute, IL.
He was born May 11, 1977 in Burlington, IA, the son of Daniel J. and Caren Cox Heckenberg.
Travis was a 1996 graduate of the LaHarpe High School. He worked as a carpenter for Midwest Bridge and Crane. He was a member of Local #270, Springfield, IL. He played basketball in high school and enjoyed following all sports. He loved his work and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by 4 children, Sally and T.J. Heckenberg of South Carolina, Julissa Willdrick of Dallas City and Bentley Mapes of LaHarpe, his mother, Caren Cox of Dallas City, one brother, Luke (Katie French) Heckenberg of LaHarpe, grandmothers, Esther Newberry of Dallas City and Rena Heckenberg of Burlington, IA, 3 nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandfathers.
A celebration of his life will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. A memorial has been established in his memory. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com
