Obituaries Friday June 19th

  1. JoAnne Yakle, age 87, of Wapello, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on July 29, 1927, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Adams) Morris in Chicago, Illinois. She was their only child growing up on their farm near Columbus Junction.

JoAnne was a graduate of Columbus Junction High School and attended Muscatine Community College where she received her Teaching Certificate.  She later received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Iowa Wesleyan College.

 

She married Bill Yakle on December 26, 1948 in Columbus Junction.  They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 63 years where they lived on a farm near Wapello.  Bill preceded her in death on May 12, 2012.  JoAnne was an educator for over 35 years in the Wapello School District where she taught kindergarten and first grade.  She loved teaching children how to read.

 

JoAnne was a member of T.T.T., Order of the Eastern Star, and former member of Delta Kappa Gamma.  JoAnne and Bill were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill and a lifelong friend, Pat Parsons.

 

Those left to honor her memory are a son, Merle & Linda Yakle of Wapello; a daughter, Kathy & Bill Barrick of Wapello; six grandchildren including Adam & Tasha Barrick of St. Louis, Missouri, Brianne Barrick & Darik Muhlenbruck of Davenport, and Jacob Barrick of Chicago, Illinois; seven great grandchildren including Knox Baker of Davenport; one great great grandson; and a dear friend, Karen Johnston of Wapello.

 

The graveside ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Wapello Cemetery with Rev. Jon Evans officiating followed by a lunch gathering with the family at the Community Outreach Building of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of an Educational Scholarship.

Anna Belle Herrick, 95, passed away Sunday June 14th, 2015, at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell, Wyoming.

 

Anna was born February 5th, 1920 in Wapello, Iowa the youngest of eight children to Jess and Anna Huddle.  After an early education at the neighborhood one-room school, she graduated from Wapello Consolidated High School and then attended nurses training in Burlington, Iowa. She and David E. Herrick were married on December 25th 1942, in Wapello.

 

Dave’s career with the Forest Service took them to several states across the U.S. In 1980 Anna and Dave retired in Ft. Collins Co.  Both Anna and Dave enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, attending CSU Rams football games and the many friends they had in Fort Collins.  Anna was involved in PEO, Forest Service Wife’s Club and the Quilters.

 

Anna is survived by her daughter Michelle (Ron) Sorter of Sequim, Washington; son, Mike (Barbara) Herrick of Powell; three grandchildren Chelle Struve, Mike (Ilsa) Struve, and Emily Herrick; and two great grandchildren Billy Struve and David Struve.

 

Anna was preceded in death by her parents Jess and Anna Huddle, husband David Herrick, and siblings, Conrad, Paul, Jess, Esther, Ruth, Lois, and Vivian.

 

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.  Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery, Wapello.  A lunch with the family will follow at the United Methodist Fellowship Hall in Wapello.
