Obituaries Friday June 26th

Albert Louis Heitz Jr., 66 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 25, 2015 at his home.  He was born January 20, 1949 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Albert Louis Sr. and Doris (Noll) Heitz.  On August 14, 1971 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa he married Linda Unzicker.  She survives.

 

Al was a 1967 graduate of Aquinas High School.  He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology at Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, Missouri, and his Masters in Political Science and Sociology at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa.  He worked 34 years for Iowa Workforce Development, Fort Madison.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of the Lake Cooper Angling Association and the Fort Madison Elks Lodge, where he was Elk of the Year in 2004-05.  He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, reading, and winter trips to Florida.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa State Cyclone Fan.  He loved his family and grandchildren, and spending time with friends.

 

He is survived by his wife, Linda Heitz, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Jessica (husband Rob) Moeller, of Houghton, Iowa; one son, Nicholas (wife Julie) Heitz, of Ankeny, Iowa; two brothers, Patrick (wife Beth) Heitz, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Michael (wife Carol) Heitz, of Naples, Florida; five grandchildren: Seth, Corbin, and Presley Moeller; and Elliot and Emmet Heitz; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Trudy Rallo.

 

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday evening.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Reverend David Wilkening as Celebrant.  Following the Mass his body will be cremated.  A memorial has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Schools and the Fort Madison Elks Lodge, contributions may be left at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Online condolences to the Heitz family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.

 

Claude C. Turpin Sr., 90 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 2:38 am Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa.  He was born November 16, 1924 at Harriman, Tennessee, the son of John Harvey and Mary Maude (Graves) Turpin.  On July 28, 1951 at Chicago, Illinois, he married Alice L. Sargent.

 

Claude lived most of his in Fort Madison.  He was a 1943 graduate of Fort Madison High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.  He worked 13 years at the Ordinance Plant, and then another 23 years for Consolidated Packaging.  He was a member of the American Legion.

 

He is survived by his wife, Alice Turpin, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Claude C. (wife Sheila) Turpin Jr., of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Carolyn L. (husband George) Frueh, of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by parents, one infant daughter, and four sisters.

 

His family will greet friends from 9:30 – 10:30 am Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Funeral services will follow and be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Bill Willis, officiating.  Burial with military rites will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa.  A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Community Hospital Foundation, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Online condolences to the Turpin family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
