‘I swear, Officer, I’m drunk’.

‘No, sir, you aren’t’.

Those words were presumably spoken after a man ran into a house with his car on Summer Street Tuesday evening. Burlington Police Officers say that they responded to the 1000 block of Summer Street where they found that a vehicle driven by 28 year old Ryan Duncan had hit a house. When officers asked Duncan what happened, he told them that he was drunk.

But, a breath test told officers otherwise: Duncan’s blood alcohol content was below the legal limit. He did have Xanax in his possession without a permit, a charge that he was arrested on.

Once at the Des Moines County Jail, Duncan allegedly attempted to stab himself with a pen and tried to stab correctional officers who moved in to stop him. That added Assault on a Correctional Officer to charges that already included drugs and traffic violations.
