Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies have made an arrest in connection with a July 12th assault and robbery where a man had his gun and phone stolen by three men who attacked him.

Des Moines County Sheriff Mike Johnstone says that a coalition made up of a number of local law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at 301 Maple Hills Apartment #15 in Burlington, where they found and arrested 18 year old Donte Marcus James on charges of 2nd Degree Robbery, a felony, in connection with the attack earlier this month.

The victim told Sheriff’s Deputies that he met the three suspects at Gasland in Burlington and invited them out drinking after purchasing alcohol. At some point, the victim revealed to the men that he was a concealed carry permit holder and showed off his firearm. The group made their way to rural Des Moines County to find a place to shoot the firearm. That’s when deputies say that the man was attacked front of a residence at 10558 Mill Dam Road by the three suspects, described as two black males and one white male, before the suspects took the items, including the victim’s firearm. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm of his own.

Johnstone says that the investigation is still ongoing. More arrests are possible.
