Republicans in Lee County gathered on Saturday to hear from one of the 16 Republicans hoping to become the next President of the United States.

Former HP Tech Executive and Presidential Candidate Carly Fiorina joined Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds to headline the 2016 Lee County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. Fiorina is the only female candidate on the Republican side of the aisle. A former tech executive and advisor to the CIA, she hopes her outsider status will help her stand out in the polls.

“I’ve been standing out since I started. Everything about me is different. My resume is different, my voice is different, the words I use are different,” Fiorina told KBUR, “Oh, and by the way, I look a little different. I have no trouble standing out.”

Fiorina left no policy point untouched in her speech, Opposing the deal with Iran, Sanctuary Cities, and advocated for “Revenue Reducing” as opposed to “Revenue Neutral” tax reform.

She advocated cutting back on government regulation, calling it especially hard on small businesses. She recalled talking to a farmer whose farm was struck by bird flu.

“He knew what he had to do. He knew how to euthanize those birds. And even though he knew that all he had to do was turn off the fans and compost those birds, nope, the US Department of Agriculture and a bunch of bureaucrats in Washington DC told him ‘We know better’,” Fiorina told the crowd, “And so they told him to keep his birds alive, so he had to keep them alive and feed them as they grew sicker and sicker…and he [could] do nothing.”

She says that USDA officials did finally show up, and ordered him…to turn off the fans and compost the birds.

Fiorina is currently down below the top-10 threshold required to get into the debates. Recent polls do have her climbing, however.

Fiorina and Reynolds was joined by Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey and several other local Republicans. Wisconsin Governor and 2016 contender Scott Walker’s wife, Tonette, was also in attendance.
