Edith Elizabeth Hinson, 85, of West Burlington, died at 8:20 PM Sunday, July 26, 2015, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born October 27, 1929, in Stronghurst, IL, she was the daughter of Herbert A. and Edna Wunderlich Annegers.

She graduated from Stronghurst High School and Gem City Business College.

Edith was a secretary and office assistant for most of her life.

She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Cedar Rapids Walk to Emmaus Community. A cancer survivor, she participated in the annual Walk for Life. Edith enjoyed her volunteer work, first on the grounds of Steamboat Days while a former member of BPW; later at the GRMC gift shop; and for years as a trained, devoted, and awarded volunteer serving Great River Hospice.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice Wilson of Lyons, CO; one granddaughter, Nora Meierotto of Burlington; two sisters, Alice Pendleton of Stronghurst, IL, and Marjorie Sullivan of Quincy, IL; one brother, Ronald Annegers of Normal, IL; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald Annegers and Raymond Annegers, one niece and one nephew.

Edith has donated to her body to the University of Iowa Medical College’s Department of Anatomy in Iowa City.

There will be no visitation or services.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice The family requests that any flowers be sent in care of the staff of Cobblestone Alley at the Klein Center, to be distributed as small gifts to Edie’s fellow residents there.

Mildred “Micky” Jean Murphy, 90, of Burlington, IA passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Burlington.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August, 29, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Large Shelter, Crapo Park, 2800 Madison Ave., Burlington. Inurnment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Mildred was born January 4, 1925 in Macomb, IL the daughter of Charles E. Carter and Mary (Martin) Carter. She married her high school sweetheart Melbourne S. Murphy on April 25, 1943. They had two sons Craig Carter Murphy and Danny Gene Murphy. Both preceded her in death.

Mildred and Melbourne moved, for Melbourne’s work with the Burlington Route, to Rock Island, IL and later suburban Indianapolis, IN with the Burlington Northern Railroad. They retired in Port Orange, FL. In the early 1990’s they moved back to Burlington to care for their aging mothers.

Mildred was an excellent cook. She enjoyed camping and traveling in her younger years. She bowled on a league and enjoyed playing Canasta. She was a member of the MOOSE Lodge and the Burlington Methodist church. She was very active in planning the Burlington Class of 1943 reunions. She also enjoyed gardening, reading the paper and watching movies and sports. More than anything, she loved spending time with family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her laughter was contagious.

Mildred’s beauty was as radiant on the inside as it was on the outside. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, her grandchildren Steve (Steffanie) Murphy, Portage, WI, Jeff (Michelle) Murphy, Cornelius, NC, Jason (Peggiann) Murphy, Burlington, and Dani Lee Murphy, Kahoka, MO; great-grandchildren Charley, Mary and Martha Murphy, Catherine and Carter Murphy, Cameron and Addisyn Murphy, and Keely Murphy and Kaleb Kelley.

Diana L. Stoneking, 57, of Keokuk, died at 8:05 pm Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
