Dozens of Cats Taken from Cedar Rapids Mobile Home

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Police say dozens of cats were taken from a Cedar Rapids mobile home, forcing a local animal shelter to shut down so its staff could care for all of them.

KWWL-TV in Waterloo reports that in addition to closing its doors, the shelter had to summon all of it staff and some volunteers to tend to the animals.

Police say officers were in the area for an unrelated reason when they received a complaint about the number of cats living in the mobile home. Some of the kittens had ear mites.

The man who lives in the home voluntarily surrendered the animals. Authorities say they haven’t pressed charges because they aren’t sure if any city codes were broken. The case remains under investigation.
