WIU Puts Former Campus Up For Sale

MOLINE, Ill. (AP) – Western Illinois University’s former Moline campus is up for sale.

The Moline Dispatch reports the property just north of John Deere Road is on the market for $5.5 million. It includes a two-story, roughly 60,000-square-foot building situated on 10 acres of park-like land.

The property originally belonged to IBM, which built it in 1970. WIU bought it in 1997 for about $1 million.

The university gradually moved out of the building as it developed its new Riverfront Campus along the Mississippi River. WIU completely vacated the building about eight months ago.

Potential uses for the property include another college, a conference center or a hotel.
