Obituaries Tuesday August 18th

John Carl Slahor, 66, of Burlington, Iowa, died at his home on Sunday, 16 August, 2015.

Born on 7 January, 1949 in Evanston, Illinois, he was the son of John and Margaret Schuett Slahor. He married Donna Jean Drennan on 24 November, 1972 in Des Plaines, Illinois.

John had an under-graduate degree from Northern Illinois University. He was a Territory Manager of Wholesale Food Distribution for Performance Food Group –Thoms Proestler.
As a route salesman, he and his wife Donna enjoyed the cuisine of his many accounts. They loved to travel and over the years they have cared for many pets that came from the animal shelter.

He was a member of Heritage Trust and Preservation Station where he volunteered many hours. He was on the Park Advisory Board assigned to the Nancy Naifeh and Riverside Parks. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and former member of the Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, John Carl Slahor Jr. and James Martin Slahor, both of Broomfield, Colorado; one sister, Carol Haisch of Round Lake, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Donald Haisch.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 20 August, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, 611 Columbia St., Burlington, Iowa. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Immediately following the funeral service, there will be a time of food & fellowship at the church.

Following cremation, interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, 2043 Sunnyside Ave, Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, 21 August, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at First United Church of Christ.
