Harmony School District to Share Grades, Programs with Van Buren High School

School boards from Harmony and Van Buren meet Wednesday to agree on a whole-sharing consolidation program to begin next school year.

The whole-sharing agreement will cover the complete instructional and extracurricular program for the junior and high schools. Now that the agreement has been reached the next step is to negotiate the agreement.

The boards will meet with other school districts and experts that are well versed in school consolidation to make sure that all the details of the agreement are worked out efficiently and effectively. The deadline to have the agreement details worked out is February 1st. The school boards will meet again on September 9th and a public hearing is set for December 2nd, this is an opportunity for the public to ask for a feasibility report from each school district.

The decision to bring the two school districts together stems from dwindling student enrollment resulting in lost funding.
