Northern Illinois University Partners With Valley College to Offer Engineering Degrees at Rockford Campus

The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/1JvcWpf ) that the deal between NIU and Rock Valley College was announced Monday.

Students with associate’s degrees in engineering science can earn one of three bachelor’s degrees from NIU’s College of Engineer & Engineering Technology starting in the fall of 2016. Those degrees are electrical engineering, technology in applied manufacturing and mechanical engineering.

Those who already hold bachelor’s degrees can earn a master’s degree.

Rock Valley President Mike Mastroianni says these types of partnerships are the way of the future and a way to grow the workforce.

The manufacturing-heavy Rockford area has diversified in recent years to include high-tech electronic systems.
