Michael John Courtney, 61, of Burlington, died at 12:53 pm Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

John L. Chatman, 72, of Burlington, died at 4:30 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at his home.

Born June 6, 1943, in Louisiana, MO, he was the son of Johnny and Gertie Elder Chatman. On July 18, 2015, he married Vicki Robinson at their in Burlington.

John worked in the roofing industry.

He was a member of the Faith Temple Church of God and Christ. He enjoyed watching westerns, car rides, and spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Chatman of Burlington; one son, Mark Tabron, Jr. of Burlington; three daughters, Tammy Florence of Gary, IN, Brenda Powell of Louisiana, MO, Kayla Robinson of Burlington; one step-son, Bruce Campbell of Burlington; three step-daughters, Julie Pearl of Chicago, IL, Michelle Campbell of Burlington, Carmen Campbell Cowan of Burlington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three brothers, Howard Chatman of Louisiana, MO, Sam (Georgia) Chatman of Vandalia, MO, Roger (Joyce) Chatman of Vandalia, MO, one sister, Mary Chatman of Missouri and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Chatman will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 31, 2015, at Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship with Elder Lawrence L. Manson officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Robin Ralph Calvin, age 61 of Morning Sun, died Wednesday August 26, 2015 at his home in Morning Sun. The son of Armand and Lola (Konkler) Calvin, he was born May 13, 1954 at Creston, Iowa. He married Sharon Hamann July 4, 1995 at Morning Sun. He worked for Springsteen Tiling.

Survivors include: his wife of Morning Sun; one son, Jeremy Orton of Spokane, Washington; two daughters, Nicole Houston of Mediapolis, Iowa and Felicia Gulley of Memphis, Tennessee; one stepson, Eric Bagwell of Wayland, Iowa; one step daughter Gayle Bagwell of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; several grandchildren; seven brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carol J. Neff, 76, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 2:09 a.m. Wednesday August 26, 2015 at her home. She was born December 16, 1938 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Virginia Baker Westerfield. She was adopted and raised by Chester and Juanita Avery Lovitt. On September 22, 1978, she married Lawrence D. Neff in Stronghurst, Illinois.
Mrs. Neff had been employed at Wal-Mart in West Burlington for nineteen years. She was a graduate of LaHarpe High School and worked as a waitress at the former Traveler’s Inn restaurant for many years. She enjoyed singing with the “Sweet Adelines” and “Harmony Incorporated” for several years. She was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Richard (Julie) Jarvis of Mahomet, IL, Jeff (Kim) Jarvis of Niota, IL, three daughters, Laurie Cramberg of Cedar Rapids, IA, Hope Schaefer of Lomax, IL, Tonya (Jesse) Garnsey of Burlington, IA, several grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one brother, Raymond (Pat) Westerfield of Gallatin, TN, and one sister, Betty (Jim) Wingert of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, adoptive parents, and one sister, Sharon Lovitt.
The funeral service for Mrs. Neff will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 29, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Rev. Karna Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
