Obituaries Friday August 28th

Michael John Courtney, 61, of Burlington, died at 12:53 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born July 28, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Gerald Winder and Alberta Meda Gerling Courtney. On February 26, 1972, he married Angelia Dains in Kingston.

Mike was an electrician at Federal Mogul. He retired from J.I. Case as an electrician, and the City of Burlington as a Stage Manager and Marketing Manager for the Burlington Memorial Auditorium.

Mike was a 1972 graduate of Burlington High School.

Mike was a member of the U.A.W. local #807. He was a Past President and a former VP of entertainment for Burlington Steamboat Days. Mike was an advisor for the Civic Music Board, and filled in for sound at The Capitol Theater. Mike and Angie were Host Couple of the Boogie Bash and he was a safety boat for MADRAC. Mike loved boating in his SeaRay, fixing things, helping people, shooting guns, and coaching his daughters in their sports. Mike and Angie had planned to retire to the Lake of the Ozarks and he cherished spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors includes his wife, Angelia; three daughters, Catina Courtney of Maricopa, AZ, Melissa (Bill Scott) Courtney of Maricopa, AZ, Wendy Courtney of Silvis, IL; two grandsons, Kalen Scott and Hunter Scott; three brothers, Jerry (Pat) Courtney of Burlington, Larry Courtney of Ontario, CA, Tom (Nancy) Courtney of Burlington; three sisters, Bonnie Jean (Jim) Murphy of Tuscon, AZ, Joyce (Maynard) Stych of Muscatine, Judy (Walt) Morgan of Tuscon, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Patricia.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Courtney will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Rigdon officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Big Muddy’s following the service.

Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the service.

Carolyn Ann Fulton, age 65 of Burlington, Iowa, passed away at 3:38 p.m. Monday August 25, 2015 at University Of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. She was born December 6, 1949 in Mars Hill, Maine, the daughter of Norman and Marjorie Kneeland Rees. She was married to Forrest Fulton in Mars Hill in 1969. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1999.

Mrs. Fulton was a social worker at St. Francis Continuing Care Center in Burlington for many years. She was a graduate of Mars Hill High School in Mars Hill, Maine, and received a bachelor of science degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She was a member of St John’s Catholic Church in Burlington.

Survivors include three sons, Shawn Fulton, Paul Fulton and Patrick Fulton, all of Burlington, Iowa, one granddaughter, Kathryn Fulton, and one sister, Linda Kinney of Mars Hill, Maine. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Jon Jackson, 78, of New London, died Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Klein Unit, West Burlington. Services are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.
