John Curt Eisenmayer, age 90 , of Stronghurst, Illinois passed away at 5:38 a.m. Friday September 4, 2015 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. He was born March 7, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Herman Andrew and Ina Frances Leonhard Eisenmayer. On June 18, 1949, he married Elizabeth Ann Ahrenhold in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2004. On October 11, 2008, he married Sharon Schoof.
Curt was the University Of Illinois Cooperative Extension Advisor in Henderson County for 40 years and Hancock County for two years. He was a graduate of Trenton, Illinois High School, then served three years in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, then graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign. He also received post-graduate studies from Western Illinois University, Southern Illinois University and the University Of Illinois.
Curt had served on the Carthage, Illinois fire department, and was Fire Chief of the M.S.T. Fire Department in Stronghurst from 1977 to 2014.. He also gave the weekly farm report on KBUR radio in Burlington since 1952. He was an instructor for the Illinois Department of Conservation, teaching hunter safety courses since 1975. He also served on the Henderson County Board, Henderson County Heart Association, Red Cross, Henderson County Fair Board, WIRC board of directors, Extension Council board of directors and Henderson County 4-H.
Curt was a member of the Stronghurst American Legion, Trenton Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons of Monmouth, Illinois Council at Knoxville, Quincy Consistory, National Rifle Association, Illinois Beef Association, American Tree Farm Association, Blandinsville Order Of The Eastern Star, and the Carman United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, two daughters, Catherine Ann (Michael) Shea, of St. Louis, MO, Margaret Christine (Daniel) Olsen of Raymore, MO, one son, Thomas Conrad (Linda) Eisenmayer of Anchorage, AK, one step son, John (Chelli) Schoof of Burlington, IA, one step daughter, Jill (Frank) Whitmore of East Moline, IL, 9 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty, one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Yakle, one granddaughter, a brother, Allan Eisenmayer, and another brother in infancy.
Masonic Rites will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday September 8th at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Sronghurst followed by visitation with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the Carman United Methodist Church with Rev. Karna Peterson officiating. Burial with military rites, will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Stronghurst. In lieu of flowers, Curt requested friends plant trees in his memory, or contribute to memorials established for the Carman United Methodist Church and the Stronghurst United Methodist Church. Paul J. Pappas, 88, of Burlington, died at 3:16 PM Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 9, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Faye Lardonetti Pappas. On February 6, 1960, he married Catherine Cecilia Schrage in Burlington. She died on September 4, 1981.

Paul worked for the U.S.Governent in civil service.

He graduated St. Paul’s High School in Burlington.

He was of the catholic faith and very frequently attended the daily mass at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include his niece, Linda Pappas and his many church friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Richard Pappas.

The Funeral Mass for Mr. Pappas will be celebrated at 12:10 PM Thursday, September 10, 2015, which is the regular time for the mass at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father David G. Steinle as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

William Elmer Myers, age 77 of Sperry, died Friday September 4, 2015 at Great River Medical Center. The son of Hugh and Edna (Lane) Myers, he was born June 20, 1938 at Burlington. On January 25, 1958 he married Joleen Thomas at Sperry. He was a 1956 graduate of Sperry High School. He also attended Junior College in Burlington. He was a farmer and a member of the Sperry United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of Sperry; two sons, Brad Myers of West Burlington and Bill Myers of Sperry; one daughter, Lisa Miller of Geneva, Illinois; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Myers of Mediapolis; two sisters, Patty Milton of Marion, Illinois; Corinne Myers of Burlington; many nieces and nephews; He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Wednesday September 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Stone Cemetery.
The casket will be closed, but friends may call to sign the register on Tuesday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will meet with friends from noon-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for Old Stone Cemetery

Richard Charles “Sarge” Townsend, 78 of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 10:33 p.m. Friday September 4, 2015 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg. He was born May 20, 1937 in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Phillip Wells and Mable Taylor Townsend. On September 28, 2004, he married Sandra Hargrave. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2011.

Mr. Townsend served 22 years in the United States Army, and saw several tours in Vietnam. Following his military career, he was employed by Rock Island Lines Railroad in Silvis, and later Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad in Burlington, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends.

Survivors include three daughters, Ariane Lehr of Germany, Bianca Forbes of Geneseo, IL, Melinda Darlene Townsend of North Carolina, two sons, Richard A. Townsend and Michael Townsend of Geneseo, IL, and five sisters, Mary Kissell of East Moline, IL, Darlene Wood of Cassopolis, MI, Shirley Roberts of Niles, MI, Pat Pence of Calhoun, GA and Irene Bachman of Galesburg, IL, and his caregiver, Rose Oxley of Wapello, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and eight brothers and sisters.

The graveside service with military honors for Mr. Townsend will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 10, 2015 at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock, Island, Illinois. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
