525 Volunteers Paint 14 Homes in Successful 23rd Paint-a-Thon

14 Des Moines County homes have a fresh coat of paint thanks to the help of 525 volunteers that took part in the 23rd Annual Paint-a-Thon over the weekend.

The Paint-a-Thon is a joint project of Two-Rivers Bank, Diamond Vogel Paint, and Community Action of Southeast Iowa.

Diamond Vogel donated 230 gallons of paint for the project this year, and have donated 7,500 gallons since the event began. Two Rivers Vice President of Public Relations, Jim O’Neill says that Community Action helped with repairing the homes as well as painting them this year.

“Community Action picks the applicants, but they also have a program where they repair the homes before we go in and paint…it makes it a lot easier when you have fresh board and new windows to paint and you can go in there and make it look a lot nicer,” said O’Neill.

The 30 teams that worked on the project were composed of church groups, government entities, and business and fraternal organizations. They worked starting last Tuesday for several hours a night to get the homes completed.

13 of the homes were in the Burlington/West Burlington area. One home was in Mediapolis.
