Burlington Crossing Property Back on the Market

An Omaha realty company has opted not to exercise it’s ability to extend an agreement with the city to develop the Burlington Crossing property along Agency and Roosevelt Street.

Dial Realty first approached the city about developing the property in 2013 and have since had the option to purchase and develop the property. City Manager Jim Ferneau says that talks between Dial and companies that may have been interested in locating on the property never came to fruition–with one of the companies that was considering the location, Dick’s Sporting Goods, opting instead to open a store across the street at the Burlington Commons Development.

With the Crossing development, which is the former site of the Burlington Manor, now without a developer, Ferneau says the property is back on the market. He says that several businesses have expressed interest in possibly locating on the property.

“We have had a couple different prospective developers who have expressed interest over the course of the last few months, whether they will follow through at this time and put together a proposal to us or not, we don’t know”, stated Ferneau.

Businesses have inquired about what sort of incentives they can receive from the city in order to locate on the property. Ferneau says that the economic situation in Burlington has improved on a whole over the past several years, which may help attract a developer for the property, which has sat vacant for over 6 years.

Original plans for Burlington Crossing included several larger retail stores and a senior housing complex, according to Dial’s Website.
