The Burlington Police Department will be hiring two more police officers, thanks to a $250,000 Community Oriented Policing Grant received earlier this week.
Police Chief Doug Beaird announced the grant award to the Burlington City Council on Monday. The grant pays for 75% of the officer’s salaries over a three-year period, with the city matching the remaining 25%.
After the three-year period, the city will be responsible for keeping the officers on payroll. Beaird expects that retirements within the organization will make those positions permanent.
