BPD to Open Station to Tours Today

The Burlington Police Department will open their doors to the public today for the first round of weekly tours of the current police station building.

Tours of the building will be held every Thursday, between 2 and 4 p.m. for any interested member of the public. The tours will run until the vote on purchasing and renovating the US Bank building for use as a police station is held in November.

“People can come in first hand and see the condition of the building that it’s in,” Burlington Police Chief Doug Beaird said on the KBUR Talkshow last week, “You’re more than welcome to come to the department. We’ll get together in groups and we’ll have enough staff to take people through the department.”

The City of Burlington is asking voters on November 3rd to approve a loan of up to $4 million to purchase and renovate the US Bank Building downtown, including adding covered parking. Earlier this week, Burlington City Manager Jim Ferneau announced that the actual amount of the loan will be closer to $2 million and will not require a property tax increase.
