Possible Meth Lab Catches Fire, Burns Down Garage

A Burlington man was burned in a fire that police believe started from a meth lab inside the garage.

Burlington Officers were headed to 2117 Melvin St., Monday night, to a complaint of suspicious odors and possible Methamphetamine being produced at that location. While officers were en route, police dispatch received a second call that the garage at that address was on fire.

Methamphetamine manufacturing components was discovered in the fire damaged garage so the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force obtained a search warrant for the property. Investigators located items that are consistent with the production of methamphetamine, both inside of the house and at the origin of the fire in the garage.

An occupant of the residence, Dustin D Holmes, age 30, was found in the garage with multiple burns to his upper body and was taken to Great River Medical Center for treatment and was released. Holmes was later arrested for Domestic Abuse Assault in reference to an incident earlier in the day at the residence. Holmes is considered a person of interest in the fire and manufacture of methamphetamine.
