Henderson County Accident Causes Major Power Outage

A single car accident in Henderson County caused a major power outage in both Oquawka and Gladstone that lasted for over 10 hours on Saturday.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s department says that 34 year old Paul Avarado of Monmouth left the scene of an accident that occurred just before 1:00 am on Saturday morning in which he apparently struck a power pole, breaking several electrical lines and causing the prolonged outage.

The accident occurred on Illinois Route 164, a quarter-mile east of County Road 1900 East in Rozetta Township.

Alvarado was arrested following an investigation and charged with Failure to Report an Accident, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Reckless Driving, Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to avoid an Accident.

Power was restored Saturday afternoon.
