Obituaries Friday October 2nd

Mr. Joe Tony Harris, 72, of Burlington, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.

According to his wishes, Mr. Harris has been cremated and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Lois Marie Nelson , 77, of Algoma, WI, died at 3:43 PM Friday, September 25, 2015, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Born May 12, 1938, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Harry R. and Meta M. Laue Schultz. On November 16,1963, she married Edward K. Nelson in Burlington. He died February 6, 2006.

She was an elementary school teacher from 1958-1962 at Sherman, a one room country school until it closed and then at Danville Elementary School. She worked at Scott Foresman (Pearson Education) as an editor in the math and art department of the publishing company for 40 years.

She grew up and was confirmed at First United Church of Christ, was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, Des Moines County Historical Society, SCC Alumni Association, and the National Home Gardening Club. She enjoyed traveling to Italy, the Caribbean, the Bahamas,Washington Island and to Door County with her sister. She enjoyed people, spending time with her cats and her family, working in her yard, reading Burlington newspapers as well as other books and material, genealogy, shopping, and associating with her sister.

Survivors include one brother, Robert R. (Emilie) Schultz of Burlington; one sister, Mary K. Ludlow of Algoma, WI; sister-in-law, Edna Schultz of Corvallis, OR; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Dr. Harry Wayne Schultz.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the family to receive friends on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St .

The funeral service for Mrs. Nelson will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 5, 2015, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial at Aspen Grove Cemetery catered by the Kitchen Ministry Committee at First United Church of Christ.

A memorial has been established for the Danville School system for education.
