Iowa Church Raising Money for New Roof for Foster Mother with a Tragic Past

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — An eastern Iowa church is raising money to buy a new roof for a foster mother whose estranged husband stabbed her more than 50 times after murdering their two children in 2003.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1hljrzD ) that Karen Fox’s new-found church family is helping to fix her leaking roof.

Fox attends Hope Church in Dubuque. She was introduced to the congregation through one of her foster children about six years ago. Church members say the campaign is in its early stages.

Fox says she was humbled by the church’s response. She says her roof is too steep to fix safely with volunteer labor, and an insurance agent recommended that she not have an adjuster inspect the roof because the company would likely drop her policy.
