Davenport Woman Catches Apartment on Fire, Charged With Domestic Abuse and Arson

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Davenport woman faces first-degree arson and domestic abuse charges after she was accused of starting a fire in the apartment she shared with her boyfriend.

The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/1FPkJis ) that 51-year-old Dorothy Jean Kelly was arrested Friday.

Police say they were called to the apartment shortly before 9:30 p.m. According to an affidavit, Kelly went after her boyfriend with a hammer and the boyfriend locked himself in the bathroom.

Police say Kelly beat on the door with the hammer and then lit combustible materials outside the door in an effort to force him out of the bathroom.

Kelly was being held Saturday night in the Scott County Jail on $25,000 bond. An attorney was not listed in online court records.
