Man Convicted of ’89 Murder Dies in Prison

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Department of Corrections says an inmate serving a life sentence for first-degree murder has died.

The agency announced Friday that 80-year-old Harvey Wilson Spencer died Thursday at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center’s hospice unit in Coralville.

Spencer had been imprisoned since November 1989 after his murder conviction in Polk County.

He died of causes related to throat cancer.
