Obituaries Tuesday October 13th

Rosada Jane Feikert Carnes, age 79, of rural Media, Illinois died at 6:37 a.m. Saturday October 10, 2015 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born August 13, 1936 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of William F. and Ada McDaniel Feikert. On January 18, 1956, she married Donald Carnes in Stronghurst. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2009.

Mrs. Carnes spent her life as a wife, mother, and a homemaker. She cherished spending time with her family. She also loved gardening and nature. She was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church, Stronghurst American Legion Post#765 Auxiliary, and a leader for the American Legion Junior Auxiliary. She enjoyed attending the Flying Hooks and Needles Club and was an avid crocheter.

Survivors include one son, Donald (Carla) Carnes Jr, of Media, IL, four daughters, Peggy Lynn (Jim) Pullins, Donna (Terry) Painter and Treasa Pence, all of Stronghurst, Bonnie Jo Carnes of Chapel Hill, TN, five grandchildren, Craig Carnes, Tracy Eastin, Travis (Alicia) Pence, Montana Pence, and Zachary Swisher, five great grandchildren, Alec Dean, Emma Rose, Abby Renee, and Ethan James Eastin, and Lucas Aaron Pence, one sister, Anna Blythe of Biggsville, IL, and two brothers, Lloyd Feikert of LaHarpe, IL, and Harold Feikert of Bushnell, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, James Edward “Eddie” Carnes, and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 14, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Steve Minkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst American Legion Auxiliary Post #765, LaMoine Christian Service Camp (Cabin Fund), and Family Outreach Community Center (Backpack Program). Samuel Kenneth Long, 64, of Burlington, died Saturday, October 10, 2015, at home.

Born October 12, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Kenneth and Mary Minetta Ostertag Long.

Sam worked in production at Chittenden-Eastman Furniture.

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1969.

He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church where he enjoyed attending the Saturday evening mass. He also enjoyed walking and visiting with friends.

Survivors include brother, Robert (Linda) Long of Burlington; one sister, Christine (Richard) Murphy of Burlington; five nieces, Necole Long, Ann (Bill) Fort, Amy (Jim) Sterler, all of Burlington, Beth Runyan of Roseberg, OR, and Jennifer Simonds of Lebanon, OR; two nephews, Terry (Sylvia) Schnicker of Geneva, IL, and Jason Schnicker of Lebanon, OR; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joanna Schnicker.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Long will be 4:30 PM Saturday, October 17, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Deacon Robert J. Glaser as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established for SS. John and Paul Catholic Church and St. Vincent de Paul Food pantry.
