West Burlington Reaffirms GE Deal

The City of West Burlington has reaffirmed a previous offer to help General Electric secure a nearly $1 million incentive package from the Iowa Economic Development authority, depending on whether or not a new product line is moved to the West Burlington Plant.

The City council approved a 20% local share contribution of $186,000 during a special meeting on Wednesday night. The contribution is contingent on General Electric creating 121 jobs in the city within three years, and then keeping those jobs for at least two.

The resolution matches a similar one made last year, which was put on delay by GE. GE recently came back with a revised jobs estimate, 15 jobs higher than previously expected.

The West Burlington Plant will compete with three other plants for the money, which will help GE bring a new product line to the area.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority is meeting today on the issue.
