A Portion of Highway 61 in Burlington Closed Temporarily Wednesday Night Due to Multi-Vehicle Accident

A driver says that a portion of Highway 61 was closed for at least half an hour Wednesday evening due to a four vehicle accident at the intersection of Plank Road and Hwy 61.

The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 8:28 p.m., a seventeen year old female from Burlington made a left turn from Plank Road onto Hwy 61 North, when she was struck by Zachery Walker, age 21, of Burlington who was southbound on the highway.

Both vehicles ended up in the northbound lanes as Tim Brown, age 47, also of Burlington was travelling toward them on Hwy 61. Brown failed to see the two car accident due to their lights being shut off and swerved into the southbound lane to miss them.

Elizabeth Seaver, age 68, of Keokuk was behind Brown but did not see the accident sitting in the northbound lane crashing into the juvenile’s vehicle and then struck Brown’s vehicle, causing him to lose control.

Both lanes of traffic were blocked.

No injuries were reported at the time of the accident.

The Juvenile was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign.
