The Kansas City Royals won the first game of the World Series against the New York Mets last night after a 14 inning marathon game that was only broken up…thanks to a former Burlington Bee. Eric Hosmer drove in the winning run with a sac fly for Kansas City to win 5-4. They play again tonight.

In Regional Quarterfinal Volleyball, the Notre Dame Nikes took down the WACO Warriors in four games in Class 1A. In Class 2A Wapello beat West Burlington in a sweep. Holy Trinity beat Moulton-Udell in a sweep. 10th Ranked New London advanced to the semifinals in Class 1A, they beat Sigourney in a sweep.

The Chicago Bulls had a big season opener last night: the first with former Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg at the helm against their interdivisional rivals, the Cleveland Cavaliers. A tipped inbound pass by Jimmy Butler with 3 seconds left on the clock ensured the Cavaliers couldn’t get in the last shot to beat or tie the Bulls, and Chicago went on to win 97-95 in a close one.
