Edward Lee “Ed” “Scotty” Scott, 85, of Burlington, died at 8:10 PM Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 18, 1930, in La Harpe, IL, he was the son of Harold Jefferson and Mary Frances “Fanny” Duncan Scott. On April 14, 1956, he married Dorothy Frances Schroeder at the First Christian Church in Dallas City, IL. She died April 14, 2003.

Ed worked as a purchasing manager for Winegard Co. in Burlington from 1953 until 1981. He and his wife owned and operated Scotty’s Dairy Bar and Restaurant from 1980 until 1990.

He was a 1947 graduate of La Harpe Community High School.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from July of 1951 until July of 1953 with the rank of Corporal.

He was a member of Eagles Aerie 150, and Friends of the Great River Medical Center, where he served on the board of directors from August 2007 until April 2008. He also volunteered for Great River Hospice from October 2004 until December 2011. He enjoyed karaoke, dancing, walking, watching T.V., computers, Rumikub, word finds, listening to country music and music from the 40’s and 50’s, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include, daughter, Beverly Jean Scott Parker of Burlington, son, Jeffrey Lee (Deb) Scott of West Burlington, son, Timothy Edward (Deana) Scott of Burlington, daughter, Annette Fran Scott (Russ) Rankin of West Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Edward, Justin, Latisha, Amanda, Stephanie, Samantha, Trista, Mallory, Erica, Jeffrey, Delanie, Drew, Jessica, Jason, and Tricia; 19 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Alyssa, Khali, Conner, Lillionna, Cohen, Ronee, Morgan, Charli, Alexa, Taylor, Savion, Eric, Jackson, Paige, Lucas, A’Miyah, Ramiah, Tanner, Henry, and Braxton; two nieces; two nephews; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Ann Scott Gittings, one brother, Ward Jefferson Scott, one son-in-law Carl Parker, and one great-granddaughter D’Niyah on May 10, 2014.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St.

The memorial service for Mr. Scott will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Eagles Aerie 150 following the service. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery, Dallas City.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.

The family requests casual attire for the service.

Zoe E. Peterson, age 87 of Media, Illinois, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Saturday October 31, 2015 at Oakwood Estates Assisted Living Center in Stronghurst. She was born March 18, 1928 in Raritan, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Vera Philhower Mathers. On May 2, 1948, she married Kenneth R. Peterson in Stronghurst. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2002.

Mrs. Peterson farmed all of her life near Media. She was a member of Young’s Lake Association, near Kirkwood, IL, and the Media Community United Presbyterian Church. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, playing games with her grandchildren, and senior bowling and bingo at Oakwood Estates.

Survivors include one daughter, Diana (Bill) Kent of Media, IL, one son, Dennis R. Peterson of Fairfield, IA, four grandchildren, Donna Sue Peterson, Michelle Rodeffer, Sara Dittner, Emily Klossing, three step grandchildren, Richard, Wesley, and Lance Kent, ten great grandchildren, and eight step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson, Paul Peterson.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Peterson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Media Community United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, near Media. Memorials have been established for Media Community United Presbyterian Church and Oakwood Estates Assisted Living Center.
