Iowa Woman Ordered to Repay $46,000 of Stolen Money to Former Employer

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Nora Springs woman has been ordered to repay her former Mason City employer more than $46,000.

Court documents say 53-year-old Susan Herout is accused of taking the money while working as the bookkeeper at McGuire Law from 2004 to 2012. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that Judge Rustin Davenport of Cerro Gordo County District Court issued the order after Herout and the law firm reached an agreement.

Herout has an unlisted number. Court records don’t list an attorney who could be contacted to comment on her behalf. Jim McGuire, of McGuire Law, declined to comment. He did not press for criminal charges.
