Burlington Teens Facing Charges After Break-Ins at Klein Center, School Administration Building

Two Burlington teenagers are charged after Police say they broke into the abandoned Klein Center, once used by the Hospital, before breaking into the Burlington School District Administration Office and causing damage.

Both Burlington Police and Burlington Fire were first paged out around 5:06 pm to a fire alarm sounding at the old Klein Center at 2910 Madison street. Fire department officials discovered that papers were set on fire in the basement of the building, which also had several windows and light bulbs broken out. On the third floor of the building, sinks were filled up with items and then turned on, causing them to overflow.

Later that evening, officers were dispatched to 1429 West Avenue, the School Administration Building, to a sounding burglar alarm. Upon arrival, they saw four subjects running from the building and were able to detain three of them.

Following interviews, police determined the juveniles were also involved with the vandalism at the Klein Center.

A 15 year old and a 14 year old are facing Burglary charges. They were transferred to the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center. The third child was released to his parents.

Further charges are pending and the incidents are still under investigation.
