Severe Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands in Southeast Iowa, West Central IL

Strong winds caused about 1,300 to lose power in Burlington and many, many more in Illinois after a severe storm system moved through the area last night.

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities reports that instruments in Burlington picked up 66 mile per hour wind gusts during that storm, which knocked down tree branches and damaged power lines.

The storm caused only about a half an inch of rain.

The front that came through the area contributed to blizzard-like conditions out west. The winds left by the passing front will continue into this afternoon.

Some tornadic activity was reported in Western Iowa.
