Community Action Looking for Public’s Help in Putting on 21st Annual Community Thanksgiving

For the 21st year in a row, a group of Burlington Volunteers is hoping to make Thanksgiving a bit better for everyone.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner, an event put on by Community Action, is taking place this year on Thanksgiving Day between 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Burlington Community High School Cafeteria.

“We didn’t want anybody to spend Thanksgiving alone. That was our mission. People have really taken that to heart,” said board member Lois Blythe.

Shoppers at the Agency Road HyVee can pitch in at the checkout counter by donating money or purchasing Turkeys for the event. The staff at Agency HyVee prepares the turkeys in preparation for the event.

“HyVee has been very generous with us. There have been so many things I haven’t been able to get that HyVee says they can get for me at their price,” said board member Jacque Krable. “Without HyVee and BHS, this dinner can’t go on.”

For free transportation to the dinner or to arrange delivery to the homebound, contact the Community Action of Southeast Iowa office at 753-0193.

Food donations of fruit pies and jello salads should be taken to the High School cafeteria on Wednesday, Nov. 25th, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Donations of canned cranberry sauce, apple juice, # 10 cans of corn, and green beans should be taken to the Burlington Public Library at 210 Court Street or International Eye Care Center at 580 South Roosevelt Avenue.
