Winter Weather on the Way Tonight, Road Conditions Expected to Deteriorate

The first of this season’s Winter weather is on the way tonight in Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois. A system making it’s way from the Rocky Mountains is expected to hit the area this afternoon.

“We expect rain and snow to develop this afternoon, turning to all snow overnight,” National Weather Service Meteorologist David Sheets told KBUR, “We expect the snow to continue overnight with snow falls of about 3-5 inches.”

The snow will accumulate, creating dangerous driving conditions.

“If you must travel, allow extra travel time. Be sure to carry a winter storm kit in your vehicle. Carry maybe some cat litter or sand, it will be slick in some places, and remember your winter driving habits,” Sheets said.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the listening area. Louisa and Mercer Counties are under a Winter Storm Warning.
