Mother of Baby Left in a Manger Will Not be Prosecuted

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York say the mother of the newborn baby found in a manger at a city church will not be prosecuted for abandoning the child.

Police say they’ve spoken with the mother who believed the baby boy would be found safely in the church and she thought the manger was the warmest place in the building.

A custodian found the child Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the woman followed the spirit of the city’s Safe Haven law.
