House Fire in Burlington on Sunday Quickly Extinquished

The Burlington Fire Department quickly extinguished a house fire Sunday evening, on 1912 Isabella Ave., limiting the fire damage to an upstairs bedroom.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:06 p.m to find smoke rolling from the rear upstairs window and brought the fire under control at 6:22 p.m. Fire Marshal Mark Crooks determined the cause of the fire to be discarded smoking materials left in a trashcan. The fire from the trashcan had spread to a couch and an end-table.

Crooks says that the fire would have been less extensive had there been a smoke detector on the second floor.

firefighters arrived on scene two minutes after the call was placed. Ten Burlington firefighters handled the blaze, with the help of six more from the West Burlington Fire Department.

The homeowners, David and Tammy Breuer, were at home when the fire started and were able to safely escape. The damage is estimated to be around $5,000. The house is insured.
