Burlington police are investigating two separate and apparently unrelated shooting incidents that took place early this morning just south of downtown.

Police Lt. Adam Schaefer reports that the first incident occurred around 2:37 am in the 200 block of South 8th street. Police say that a report of shots being fired in that area led to the discovery of broken glass and shell casings, indicative of gunfire. Shortly after the discovery, officials at Great River Medical Center informed police that a victim came into the emergency room with a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for precautionary reasons, however their injuries appear to be non life threatening.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Less than an hour later, at 3:34 am, in an incident believed to be unrelated, officers also responded to an apartment complex at 300 Angular Street in response to a person suffering a gunshot wound. Police are not releasing the identity of the victim, their condition, or any further details about the incident at this time.
