A snow emergency has been declared in Burlington after about two inches of snow fell on Southeast Iowa in a snowy start to Valentines day.

Vehicles parked along posted snow emergency routes, will be ticketed, and are subject to tow. Snow emergency status is automatically triggered when weather spotters in the area report snowfalls of two inches or more. That snow emergency will continue until cancelled by the Burlington Public Works Director’s office.

Roads are slippery throughout most of the area, and they’ll likely stay that way, at least in spots, as more snowfall is on the way. National Weather Service Meteorologist Andy Ervin.

“We could total up another half inch,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Andy Ervin on Sunday. “All said and done, we’re looking at somewhere between three to five inches across southeast Iowa and west central Illinois.”

That snow will come in at least three more bursts of light snow sporadically throughout the rest of the day.

Accidents are being reported throughout the area, due to the slippery road conditions.
