Obituaries Thursday April 28th

Katherine (Kay) Marie Wagner, 90, of Danville died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Great River Hospice House.

Born December 13, 1925, in Henry County she was the daughter of Clifford and Florence Carlson.  Kay was a graduate of Mt. Union High School, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College where she played on the first women’s basketball team and also met her future husband, Holly. On August 18, 1945 she married Frank Holly Wagner at the Methodist Church in Mt. Union, Iowa.

Kay was a member of Danville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Circle, Sunday School teacher, Garden Club, P.E.O., 50 year member of T.T.T., 50 year member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, 4-H leader and volunteer junior high girls’ basketball coach.  Kay and Holly were honored as Iowans of the Day at the 2005 Iowa State Fair.  Kay enjoyed watching basketball games, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include three children, Pam (Bob) Day of Carlisle, Mark Wagner of San Diego, and Jill (George) Bowers of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, Steve (Kathryn) Day of  League City, TX, Marcia (Dan) Johnson of Waukesha, WI, and Jessica Bowers of Mesa, AZ; and three great grandchildren, Emma Day of League City, TX and Alyssa and Luke Johnson of Waukesha.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Mike Carlson, Jane Tompkins, and Lorna Cornick.

The funeral service will be held Saturday April 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Danville, with Rev. Kathleen Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at the Jaggar Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Danville United Methodist Church.

Memorials have been established for Danville Fire and Rescue and Great River Hospice.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Jimmy A Higdon, 78, Danville died Tue 4/26 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, 2 sons, Randy and Greg of Danville, a daughter Diane Snelson of West Burlington, 4 brothers, Bill of Springfield, VA, Stanley of Wever, Bob of New London and Gary of Dallas, GA, 3 sisters, Betty McGrath of Moline, Dorothy Mills of Salem and Kay Bergthold of Springfield, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 1030 AM at Lunning Chapel with burial at Prairie Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 Fri 4/29 at Lunnings.
