Mediapolis won a hard fought victory over Fort Madison on the volleyball court, winning in five games. Burlington topped Bettendorf in a three game sweep. Van Buren topped West Burlington in four games. New London over Central Lee in four, Washington over Keokuk in three. In girls swimming action Burlington beat Davenport North 99-60.
In Cross Country action Fort Madison took first in both categories at the Washington Cross Country Invitational with 33 team points on the boys side and 27 team points for the girls.
The St. Louis Cardinals routed Cincinnati 12-5 thanks to an Aledmys (Al-ed-miss) Diaz grand slam in the 4th. Diaz grew up on the same street as late Miami Pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died Sunday. The Chicago Cubs downed Pittsburgh 6-4 for their 101st win of the season. Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3. Chicago White Sox beat Tampa 13-6.
