Obituaries Thursday September 29th

Darla Jean McCracken, 70, of Burlington, died at 12:49 PM Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born February 24, 1946, in Montezuma she was the daughter of Byron Alfred and Bernice Almeda Miller Smith. On April 6, 1969, she married Arthur H. McCracken in Fairfield.

 

Darla worked in retail sales for 14 years and data entry for 14 years.

 

She was a member of Harmony Bible Church. She collected marbles, depression glass, and antique dishes. She enjoyed painting raw plaster and ceramics, refinishing furniture, sewing, and quilting.

 

Survivors include her husband, Arthur H. McCracken; two daughters, Christina McCracken of Burlington and Brenda McCracken of Nevada, IA; one grandson, Anthony of Ames; and one sister, Joyce Smith of Roland.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Sheldon Dean Smith.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM  until 7:00 PM Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. McCracken will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2016, at Harmony Bible Church with Pastor Nathan Williams officiating.   A time of food and fellowship will be held at Harmony Bible Church following the service.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.  Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

 

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Selia J. “Susie” Schmidt, 63, of Eldridge, IA passed away at 7:50 AM Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Davenport, IA.

Susie was born on May 20, 1953 in LaHarpe, IL, the daughter of Merrill Robert and Georgia Sheffler Link.

 

Susie was a 1971 graduate of the LaHarpe High School. She then attended the Mary Crest College in the Quad Cities. She worked as a care giver for handicapped children, and had most recently been employed by New Choices. Susie enjoyed following political shows and researching family genealogy. She also like reading and studying from the Bible.

 

Survivors include two sons: Bobby Barenthin of Eldridge, IA and John (Sally Strobbe) Schmidt also of Eldridge; step-grandson: Ethan Strobbe; mother: Georgia Cox of LaHarpe; one brother: Daniel Link of LaHarpe; three sisters: Lila (Wendell) McKeown of Fountain Green, IL, Brenda (Steve) Peterburs of Morton, IL, Tracy (Jeff) McDowell of LaHarpe; and sister-in-law: Kristina Link of Brimfield, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother, Mark Link.

 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the LaHarpe Cemetery with Nate McCarter officiating. A visitation will be held at the Cornerstone Baptist Church at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eldridge.
