Obituaries Friday October 21st

Robert Ellis Dains, 89, of West Burlington, died at 7:50 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

 

Born March 19, 1927, in Rock Spring, WY, he was the son of Marion L. and Opal  Minnick Dains. On May 15, 1948, he married Barbara Acton in Ottumwa. She died July 20, 1998. On July 31, 1999, he married Bernice Hively in Burlington. She died November 18, 2001.

 

Bob worked for J.I. Case for 16 years.

 

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan.  He enjoyed watching racing and dancing.

 

Survivors include one son, Danny E. Dains of Atwater, CA; three daughters, Angie Courtney of Burlington, Cheryl Gammage of Paradise Valley, AZ, Marian Wybenga of Phoenix, AZ; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wives he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Monday, October 24, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Dains will be 1:00 PM Mon day, October 24, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice.

Robert F. Machholz, 64, of West Burlington, died at 12:25 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at his home.

 

Born November 29, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Floyd Everett and Mary Louise Stohler Machholz. On April 7, 1972, he married Mary Celeste Siltanen in Burlington.

 

Robert was an electronics engineer.

 

He graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1971. He attended Southeastern Community College.

 

He was a member of the Iowa Army National Guard.

 

He enjoyed drag racing, CB Radio, and was a weather spotter.  He was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

 

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Elton (Kristi) Machholz of Clifton, VA, Ryan (Denise) Machholz, Cory (Risa) Machholz both of Burlington; eight grandchildren; one brother, Randall “Ran” Machholz; and two nephews, Craig & Eric Machholz.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Pamela.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, October 24, 2016 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Machholz will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Steven Parker officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Iowa Army National Guard and a Scholarship Fund at SCC in his name.
