Obituaries Friday December 2nd

Mrs. Betty Ann Parrish, 89, of Burlington, IA, formerly of Gladstone, IL, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Klein Center in West Burlington, IA.

 

She was born on June 4, 1927 in Litchfield, NE the daughter of Seth H. and Flora Van Richmond. On June 2, 1956 she married Raleigh Parrish in Oquawka, IL, he survives.

 

Mrs. Parrish was a 1945 graduate of the Oquawka High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She then attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 1949 with a music major. She taught music for many years in several Henderson County, Illinois schools. Also, Betty had taught piano lessons for 30 years. Betty was a past member of the Oquawka Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and loved playing the piano.

 

Survivors include her husband, Raleigh, one sone, Mark (Carol) Parrish of Carman, IL, one daughter, Linda (Mike) Churchill of Effingham, IL, one sister, Nancy (Andy) Carlson of Rosetta, IL and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Edna Richmond, and two brothers, Seth and Jack Richmond.

 

No services are planned at this time. Burial will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Mr. William “Bill” J. “Vacuum Man” Egan II, 72, of Burlington died at 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at his home.

Born December 2, 1943 in Burlington, he was the son of William and Helen Maxine (Heaton) Egan.  On October 20, 1979 he married Roselyn Marie Weber in Mediapolis.  He was previously married to Paula Burgess who preceded him in death in 1972.

Mr. Egan was a 1962 graduate of Mediapolis High School.  He was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Egan was the owner of Midwest Vacuum for 26 years and sold vacuums for over 50 years.  He loved to sell and was a salesman of many items.

Mr. Egan was a Christian and loved to witness and pray for people.  He was a past member and singer in the Bobby Storm Band.  He also loved to talk and be with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Roselyn Egan of Burlington; one daughter, Kelly Knox of Keokuk; one step-son, Keith A. (Daniell) Simmons of Grand Island, Nebraska; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; five sisters, Judith (Melvin) Kerr of Macomb, Illinois, Kate (Brian) Ford of Alpine, California, Julia Klenske of Burlington, Joan Beauvais of San Marcos, California and Mary (Tom) Manning of Little River, South Carolina; three brothers, Patrick Egan, Dan (Lynn) Egan and Terry (Anne) Egan all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one grandchild and one brother.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment in Kossuth Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
